Want to use Google’s Calendar but integrate third-party conferencing options?  In an exciting development, Google has released an update to allow G Suite users to use third party add-ons to allow users to create, view and join third-party video conferencing from a Calendar event without relying on Chrome extensions or having to download software. Users simply click a link within the Calendar invite to join the meeting on their browser or mobile device.
Google has prepared this launch by partnering with four companies whose add-ons for video conferencing are now available in the G Suite Marketplace. The four video conferencing options are:
  • Cisco (Webex integration)
  • Dialpad (UberConference integration)
  • LogMeIn (GoToMeeting integration)
  • Vonage (Vonage integration)
How it works: Conferencing add-ons are managed in the admin console. Admins can install conferencing add-ons for the entire domain or selected organizational units. Event organizers are also able to install any of these add-ons directly.
How to use: Once an add-on is installed, users can add third-party conferencing details when creating Calendar events. Guests invited to the event will be able to see the third-party conferencing details and join, even if the guests do not have the add-on installed themselves.
Benefits: With the implementation of third-party conferencing in Calendar, G Suite can be a one-stop shop for easy video conferencing. This new features makes video conferencing easier and more efficient by (i) not requiring additional plugins and (ii) taking away confusion about which video conferencing application the participants should launch at the beginning of the meeting.  This feature also reduces software upkeep costs by giving administrators the ability to substitute software applications for native Calendar integration exclusively using G Suite.
