As we step into the new year, it’s a great time to uplevel your skills with a certification or specialization course. Google has a variety of certifications available. Regardless of your years of experience with IT or Google products, it’s always a good idea to test your knowledge of your Google Cloud skills. Here are three different tracks I’d recommend, depending on your goals and areas of expertise.

Google Workspace Administration Specialization

Google Workspace Administration Specialization courses are my favorite kind, as they allow you to get your hands dirty and take various actions to complete configurations in a trial Google account.

This specialization is appropriate for any IT professional who is responsible for managing Google Workspace for their company. It is ideal for new hires who could use some practice configuring Google Workspace services, security settings, email management features, and more. The courses include reading materials, videos, hands-on exercises, and short quizzes to test your knowledge along the way.

Once you complete these foundational courses in the Google Workspace Administration Specialization, it sets you up for success in effectively managing and better protecting your organization’s Google Workspace users and data.

Google IT Support Professional Certificate

If you ever wanted to learn how to master IT like a champ, Google IT Support Professional Certificate is for you. Here, you can earn Google’s professional certificate as an IT Support Professional. It is a beginner-level course, however, after completing the courses and the hands-on projects, you’ll earn a Professional Certificate which is an awesome addition to your resume.

This program is well-suited for IT Support and Help Desk professionals or anyone dedicated to supporting end users, systems, networking, and more for their company. The course covers operating systems, networking, and infrastructure; it is not solely focused on Google Workspace administration like the Google Workspace Administration Specialist course set reviewed above.

So, if you’re fairly new to your position in IT and looking for a certificate program, Google’s IT Support Professional Certification is a great place to start!

Google Cloud Certified Professional Collaboration Engineer

So, you’ve been a Google Administrator for a few years now, and you want to prove you really know your stuff. Get down with your bad self and become a fellow Google Cloud Professional Collaboration Engineer

This exam tests your knowledge in tackling configurations and integrations within your Google environment to meet business needs. It is recommended that you have about three or more years of experience working with Google Workspace before you conquer this one. You should be competent in following best practices for security, efficiency, and operating in Google Workspace.

The exam has 50 questions and can be taken onsite at a testing center or remotely. Google offers an exam guide and even some sample questions in a form that may be used to assess your readiness for the exam. Although these resources are helpful, I feel that working on deploying, managing, and consulting with Google Workspace customers for more than 8 years was the best way for me to prepare for this exam.

If you’ve been actively helping your company innovate with Google, consider this certification.
